Quickflash Flashing Panels: The Ultimate HVAC, Electrical & Plumbing Penetration Seal

Posted by Spycor Building on Oct 27th 2025

Quickflash® flashing panels are pre-formed panels designed to flash exterior wall penetrations (electrical boxes, low-voltage wiring, plumbing and gas pipes, sheet-metal ducts, and A/C line sets) as part of a properly lapped weather-resistive barrier (WRB) detail. Each panel is sized for a specific box, pipe, or line set. This selection guide shows contractors how to match the right model to the penetration type, its size or box model, and the wall finish.

Why Exterior Wall Penetrations Leak

Every wall has penetrations. A typical house has hose bibs, exterior outlets, gas lines, dryer and exhaust ducts, A/C line sets, and low-voltage wiring, and each one cuts through the WRB that keeps water out of the wall cavity.

The common field fixes have the same weak point: they depend on how carefully someone cuts and seals an irregular shape.

  • Caulk or sealant is applied at the joint, so its performance depends on the bead, the surface prep, and maintenance over time.

  • Hand-cut flashing tape around a round pipe or a box flange leaves laps and wrinkles that are hard to get right on every penetration.

  • “X-cuts” in housewrap create flaps that can channel water toward the hole instead of away from it.

When water gets past a penetration, it reaches the sheathing behind the cladding, which is where hidden damage starts.

How Quickflash Panels Work

A Quickflash panel replaces improvised detailing with a pre-formed, sized part. The panel slides over the pipe, box, or line set, and the WRB laps around it, shingle-style, so water drains outward.

The manufacturer states that its panels:

  • Help prevent water intrusion and stop air leakage

  • Self-seal around fasteners

  • Are non-corrosive and non-conductive

  • Eliminate the need for sealants at the penetration (exception: the P-2PS, below)

  • Integrate with the building envelope and work with all cladding systems

Performance depends on choosing the correct panel for the box, pipe, or line set and integrating it with the WRB per Quickflash’s installation guides. Compatibility varies by model and wall assembly, so a panel alone doesn’t make a wall watertight.

For contractors, the main advantage is repeatability. When each penetration gets the same factory-formed detail, results depend less on who installed it.

Quickflash HVAC Flashing Panels

HVAC penetrations are some of the largest and most irregular on a building. Line sets are insulated, flexible, and move with temperature changes, and sheet-metal ducts come in many diameters.

A/C Line Set Panels

Choose by insulation tubing diameter (not the copper size) and by cladding:

Model

Fits

Seal

Best For

Pack

A/C U-C “Universal Curved” 1 1/2"–2 3/4" insulation tubing Rubber seal Siding and stucco walls Box of 4
A/C U-S “Universal Squared” 1 1/2"–3 1/2" insulation tubing Tear-out rubber seal Larger line sets; siding and stucco Box of 4
A/C U-B “Brick & Cultured Stone” 1 1/2"–3 1/2" insulation tubing Tear-out rubber seal Brick and cultured stone veneer Box of 4

Common mistake: cutting the rubber seal to force a fit. Quickflash’s installation guide says to use the correctly sized panel and not to cut the rubber seal. If the line set is larger than 2 3/4", step up from the U-C to the U-S.

Duct and Vent Panels

Many P-series panels also fit single-wall sheet-metal duct, which makes them the go-to choice for exhaust and HVAC duct penetrations:

Quickflash also makes the HVTK panel for 2" or 3" PVC horizontal vent termination kits. Call Spycor Building Products to check availability.

Quickflash Electrical Flashing Panels

Electrical penetrations are the trickiest to flash because boxes vary in shape, brand, and depth, and the finish (stucco, siding, EIFS) changes how far the box sits from the sheathing. That’s why Quickflash electrical panels are matched to specific boxes and specific wall depths.

Rule: identify the box manufacturer and part number, then confirm the panel on Quickflash’s Electrical Cross Reference Sheet before ordering.

How to Read Quickflash Electrical Model Numbers

  • SGB = single gang box · DGB = dual gang box · 3/0, 4/0 = round/octagon box sizes · PC = pancake box · SGR = single gang plaster ring

  • -A = Allied Moulded box · -C = Carlon adjustable box

  • 5/8", 7/8", 1 3/8" = finish depth

Common mistake: ordering by box type alone. A 7/8" panel and a 1 3/8" panel for the same box are not interchangeable. The wall finish decides the depth.

Quickflash Plumbing & Gas Flashing Panels

Plumbing and gas panels are chosen by pipe size. Most fit copper, rigid, and PVC pipe, and the larger models also fit ABS.

Pipe Size

Model

Notes (per Quickflash)

1/8"–3/8" P-25 Also used with low-voltage electrical
1/2"–3/4" P-50 Hose bibs, supply lines, gas; also electrical pipe through brick and stone
Two 1/2"–3/4" lines, 4" on center DBL-50 Tankless water heaters; copper, rigid, PEX, PVC; one panel, two penetrations
1"–1 1/4" P-100 Copper, rigid, PVC
1 1/2"–1 3/4" P-150 Adds ABS
2"–2 1/2" P-200 Adds ABS; also 3" duct
3" P-300 Also 4" duct
4" P-400 12 1/2" panel; also 5" duct
6" P-600 12 1/2" panel
8" / 10" / 12" P-800 / P-1000 / P-1200 18 1/2" panels
1/2"–2" copper with exterior tees already attached P-2PS Two-piece panel for retrofits; caulking is required at the pipe-to-panel joint

When to use the DBL-50: tankless water heaters need supply and return lines through the wall. One DBL-50 panel replaces two separate panels and means fewer cuts in the housewrap.

When to use the P-2PS: when a tee is already sweated onto the pipe outside the wall and a one-piece panel can’t slide over it.

Bottom line: caulk and tape are field-formed at each penetration. Quickflash panels are factory-formed and sized per model, which makes the detail more consistent across trades.

How to Choose the Right Quickflash Panel: 6 Steps

  1. Identify the penetration: electrical box, low-voltage wire, pipe, gas line, duct, or line set.

  2. Measure it: pipe size, duct diameter, or line-set insulation diameter.

  3. Identify the box (electrical): record the brand and part number, then check the cross-reference sheet.

  4. Match the wall assembly: 3-coat stucco or lap siding, rainscreen or furring, 1-coat stucco or EIFS, or brick and stone veneer.

  5. Check special cases: tankless water heater (DBL-50), existing copper tees (P-2PS), Arlington InBox (E-AIB), brick line sets (U-B).

  6. Confirm the model number against the tables above before adding it to your cart.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Quickflash flashing panels used for?
They flash exterior wall penetrations (electrical boxes, low-voltage wiring, plumbing and gas pipes, sheet-metal ducts, and A/C line sets) so the WRB can be lapped around them.

Which Quickflash panel fits an A/C line set?
Measure the insulation tubing. The U-C fits 1 1/2"–2 3/4"; the U-S fits 1 1/2"–3 1/2"; the U-B fits 1 1/2"–3 1/2" and is made for brick and cultured stone.

No. Each electrical panel fits specific boxes and finish depths. Confirm with Quickflash’s Electrical Cross Reference Sheet.

What’s the difference between 7/8" and 1 3/8" Quickflash electrical panels?
Finish depth. The 7/8" panels are for 3-coat stucco and lap siding with rainscreen or furring strips; the 1 3/8" panels are for 1-coat stucco and EIFS.

Which Quickflash panel do I need for a tankless water heater?
The DBL-50. It has two holes spaced 4" on center for 1/2"–3/4" supply and return lines.

Do Quickflash panels require caulk or sealant?
Quickflash says its panels eliminate sealant at the penetration. The exception is the two-piece P-2PS, which requires caulk at the pipe. All panels must still be integrated with the WRB.

Can Quickflash panels be used with ZIP System sheathing or brick?
Quickflash publishes dedicated installation guides for ZIP System® and brick, and the U-B line set panel is designed for brick and cultured stone. Follow the guide that matches your wall assembly.
